What can you expect from SAFe Release Train Engineer Course?

The Release Train Engineer (RTE), a role exclusive to SAFe®, is one of the three leaders, along with product managers and system architects. This is essential for guiding Agile Release Trains (ARTs) to provide value. This means that in order to make choices based on the right information, the RTE must provide the proper conditions, engage in appropriate discourse, organize appropriate gatherings, and assemble appropriate personnel.

The Release Train Engineer assist in establishing and documenting methods as well as configuring SAFe to the needs of the enterprise.

You will learn how to implement SAFe and continuously enhance PI Planning and other important SAFe events in the SAFe® RTE course. Learn new procedures and mindsets by coaching leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters. Additionally, you'll receive the instructions and resources required to collaborate well with distributed teams in remote settings.

Course Introduction

SAFe overview, RTE role responsibilities, and certification path

Lesson 1: RTE Role and ART Context

Lean-Agile principles, ART structure, and RTE servant leadership.
Group activity: Mapping RTE responsibilities to real-world scenarios.

Lesson 2: Preparing and Facilitating PI Planning

Pre-PI readiness, agenda creation, and distributed planning techniques.
Day 1 facilitation (business context, vision, team breakouts).
Simulation: Practice draft plan reviews and risk ROAMing.

Lesson 3: Finalizing PI Plans

Day 2 facilitation (management reviews, confidence vote, retrospectives).
Post-PI outputs (integrated objectives, event scheduling).
Activity: Create sample ART PI objectives and planning board.

Lesson 4: Supporting ART Execution

Key events (ART Sync, PO Sync, Coach Sync, System Demo).

Lesson 5: Built-in Quality and DevOps

Agile quality practices, NFRs, and Continuous Delivery Pipeline (CALMR).

Flow metrics (velocity, load, efficiency, predictability).
Eight flow accelerators (WIP limits, bottlenecks, batch sizes).

Lesson 7: Improving Relentlessly

IP iteration (innovation, spikes, hackathons).
Inspect and Adapt (PI System Demo, metrics, problem-solving workshop).
Value Stream Mapping and Measure & Grow assessments.
Simulation: Facilitate a mini Inspect and Adapt.

Lesson 8: Coaching the ART

Tuckman stages for ART maturity, facilitation techniques.
Building one-team culture and tribal unity.
Activity: Practice large-group facilitation for ART Sync.

Lesson 9: AI for RTEs

AI foundations, prompting, responsible AI, and RTE use cases (facilitation, metrics, risks).
Workflow integration and evaluation techniques.
Practice: Prompt AI for PI Planning agendas and flow analysis.

Exam review, learning plan, feedback, and action planning.
