Reaching the Tipping Point

“First step is most important as it will initiate the direction you have chosen”.


This statement is also applicable in implementing the SAFe framework. Many have stated that adapting SAFe is one of the toughest but still very rewarding changes that has ever been done. While applying a change in large organizations it is necessary to include the mindset, habits, and culture. Most of the time individuals or organizations resist the change unless they don’t reach their tipping point. It is the point at which the organization tries to achieve the change rather than resisting it.



To better understand the tipping point required for change let’s see the details of reaching the tipping point.


Requirement of Change

Whatever may be the starting point of change but the enterprises must acknowledge that the current ways of working are inadequate to deliver the value required in the present or upcoming future market conditions. The enterprises that have such awareness generally meet two conditions

1. Burning Platform- In cases when the companies fail to compete or are inadequate to achieve fresh solutions within the required time-box they need change. They come through the sense of urgency for compulsory change within the organization.

2. Visionary Leadership- Cases when there is no burning platform for change, leaders must proactively drive change. The leaders must communicate and compile the need for change even in the times where the employees feel that the company is successful and there is no need for change. This continuous sense of danger fuels the constant improvement in organizations.


Establish Vision for Change

To reach the tipping point other than compiling the reason for change the well- established vision is also necessary that provides the benefits as

  • Purpose- It clears the purpose and direction of the change and clarifies the focuses without going into much detail.

  • Motivation-It helps the individual in motivating for the goals by giving them the reason why the change is needed and how it will affect them in the future.

  • Alignment-It aligns the people with a common goal and ensures that they will work without continuous supervision, check-ups, and follow-ups.

Take Economic View

Every enterprise work for the benefit. Generally, the benefits are economically calculated by organizations in four forms as Quality, time in the market, productivity, and engagement. Leaders must communicate this benefit as part of the vision of change. They must also clearly communicate the target for the future and strategies to achieve them.


Getting Leading SAFe

The most effective way of reaching the tipping point is shared experience and influencers attending leading SAFe. Dedicating lots of time to this task is critical for leaders. But they must atleast take time to collaborate along for exploring, analyzing, and validating for themselves for the challenges of organizations.
